Advanced Assist Tracking: Potential and ‘Other’ Assists

Want to get better insights into who your shot creators are? Like the high level teams doing sophisticated game analysis using Hoopsalytics, you can track advanced assists for three different types:

  • Traditional Assists (passes to a scoring player)
  • Potential Assists (events which could have led to a score, but didn’t.)
  • Other Assists (which lead to a score)

Assists (or potential assists) can be more than just passes. For example, some teams track Screen Assists (setting a screen to free a player to score), Hockey Assists (“one more” passes or pass-pass-score), or Led to Free Throws passes.

When adding details to your scored games, you can customize your scoring panel to add Potential and Other Assists, or find those events from here:

Then select one of these options:

And pick an advanced assist type:

As with everything else in Hoopsalytics, you can add your own custom assist types as well.

Giving credit to team-oriented plays is an important part of building your culture of unselfishness. And being able to track player events that contribute to your success, outside of a traditional box score, should really help you win more games.

This is just one of the ways that modern stats and analytics package like Hoopsalytics can help your team reach their full potential.
