Analytics of Transition vs. Half-Court Offense

Transition basketball is quite different than half-court basketball, and at Hoopsalytics we give coaches the ability to gain insights on their teams and opponents for these two different modes of play. At-the-rim and three-point attempts also should be accounted for differently, depending upon whether it’s half-court set or a transition action.
Hoopsalytics makes it easy to gain this extra level of insight in various ways. To start, look at your Game Summaries and Game Flow, you can see how each team scores in transition vs. half-court. (See the example at the top of this post.)
You can also use the Shot Analysis tool to see shooting splits for three-pointers in transition or half-court sets, like so:

And you can add your own stats for at-the-rim and three-point transition vs set offense to any player or lineup stat box score. Or use the built-in Shooting (from Sets) view. Here you can see splits for three-pointers and at-the-rim (ATR) from Transition (Trans.) and half-court (HC) for various shot types.

This level of detail also is used by the Hoopsalytics AI Assistant, so that your player evaluations and scouting reports are even more accurate.
Best of all, there is no extra work required for coaches to obtain this data. Hoopsalytics breakdowns tag whether it’s a half-court set or not, and every shot is categorized for you.
For my team, I have some players who are more effective at transition three-pointers, and others who are better in the half-court. Knowing this helps me better plan practices and come up with more precise game plans.
Once you start using these advanced stats, you’ll get to yet another level of understanding on how to win more games, and get the most out of your own team.
