Why Hoopsalytics is a better basketball platform than Hudl

If you’re looking to get an edge this season using high-level stats and analytics, you’re probably looking at Hudl Assist or Hoopsalytics.

Hudl Assist or Hudl Instat are $900 to $1500 or more. They also tack on extra charges for things like video storage, and faster turnaround times. This is for a basic stats package.

Hoopsalytics is the easy-to-use, affordable, high level stats and analytics alternative. Hoopsalytics stats are easily accessible, easy to customize, and starts at around $460 for a 20-game season for high school and around $1,000 for a full season of college. And you can pay-as-you-go for extra games, whether it’s for scouting, junior varsity or anything else you like. And we offer a 12-hour turnaround time – no extra charge.

Hoopsalytics will do comprehensive game breakdowns and generate analytics for you. You can add your own custom sets or actions to track, and also add shot quality, attributes (like contested or uncontested) and anything you like.

Here’s an analytics example: a coach can tag (name) the various offensive sets they’d run – we’ll make Offensive Sets for you. Hoopsalytics will then do the rest, calculating the outcomes and points generated from each set, with each box score number video-linked to those sets. And you can include or exclude players from the reports, or filter on a specific time period for one or more games.

If you’re at all into stats and analytics, you’ve seen a “4 factors” stat line in Hudl or other systems. These are generic, predictive stats that analytics guru Dean Oliver pioneered about 20 years ago. They may have some predictive value for your team, but with the wealth of stats and analytics that Hoopsalytics provides, you can do much better.

For example, Hoopsalytics has a Stat Analysis tool, which lets you examine 75+ stats to see what metrics lead to success, unique to your team. For some of my recent teams, I’ve discovered:

  • Defensive Points Per Possession under 0.98 PPP was a 100% predictor for my recent 27-6 team.
  • Winning overall Rebounding Percentage (REB%) predicted all but one win for another team.

If you’re like many of our coaches who were dissatisfied with Hudl’s cost and value, you need to investigate Hoopsalytics:

  • Plans start at $460 for 20 games for high school and $35/game for college.
  • Pay-as-you-go after 20 games (for playoffs, scouting, junior-varsity, etc.)
  • 12-hour turnaround is typical, no extra charge
  • Unlimited private video storage, forever, at no extra cost.
  • More advanced analytics, including interactive shot charts and each player’s impact on team stats.
  • Easy-to-create film sessions.
  • Track your own custom plays, sets and actions, and see what’s working or failing.
  • Full shot analysis by shot type and shot quality scores.
  • And much more.

Hoopsalytics was created by basketball coaches, for basketball coaches. It’s not a spin-off from a football system, and we aren’t a large monolithic company. We offer free training and dedicated support in case you need it.
